Tools & Craft
is an exhibition concept that aims to promote the projects of designers and artisans who combine traditional expertise with innovative and experimental techniques to create contemporary and collectible design pieces. From the application of AI, coding, and 3D printing to glassblowing, casting, and molding techniques, the projects involved will show how design can cherish tradition while fostering innovation. An homage to techniques that have been used for centuries and have created a well of expertise which new generations of designers are building upon and shaping into fresh and modern pieces of design.
Viktor Tabiš (*1990)
is a graduate of the Experimental Design studio at AFAD. He won the Rector's Award 2022 technology for his final diploma thesis - author's technology "Originality".
Viktor created an author's technology for casting porcelain - a material he devoted himself to for several years in parallel with experiments on the ground of author's technologies. While the 3D printer continuously produces molds for plaster casting, the hydraulic press in the next stage breaks the plaster parts of the mold, introducing an element of chance into the process. The customer participates in the individualization of the casting mold by choosing the order of individual elements and thus makes it original.
The author's technology of Viktor Tabiš also won the main prize of the autumn Bratislava Design Week 2022 and was also presented at Designblok in Prague and Dutch Design Week 2022. Among 22 designers from 11 countries within the curated selection of ISOLA / Tools & Craft in Milan, Viktor is the only representative of Slovakia.
