Intermedia
The Department of Intermedia was established in 2007 in a response to the demand for a study programme within which participants could systematically operate with new media. The interdisciplinary nature of the environment of several media (photo, video, computer animation, interactive installations, objects, performances, drawing, sculpture, etc..) offers a wide range of options and tools for creating procedures that reflect current topics and problems.
About intermedia
The study program Intermedia was founded in 2007 based on the need to respond to the very development of art education and, at the same time, as a reflection of the interest of many applicants in an education that goes beyond the boundaries of classical visual arts. Intermedia integrated into education elements, approaches, forms and manifestations belonging to the field of e.g. theater arts (video, sound, text, performance, etc.), new technologies (interactivity, virtual reality, etc.), but also methodologies and approaches of the humanities and cultural operations, while retaining classical expressive elements (drawing, painting, object, photography, ...).
The Intermedia study program is based on the interaction of these creative media and elements from other areas of art (dance, music, film, etc.) with scientific, professional and social areas of life. We can briefly characterize them as dynamic experimentality between media and environments. The program offers a wide range of possibilities, procedures and tools with which to reflect on the reality around us, to respond to current social issues and problems, or to comment on the basic questions of life.
The Study
The basis for developing creative thinking are 3 studios - Studio of Intermedia, Studio of spatial communication + video and Studio vvv (visual, verbal, public) - in which students consult their work, develop their skills, acquire new knowledge and profile their individual artistic expression. Part of the department is also the LAB workplace, where preparatory courses and professional subjects are taught and contains basic technical facilities (video editing room, sound studio, lecture room, etc.).
In the bachelor's degree, students complete the 1st semester according to their own choice either in the Preparatory course of sculpture or the Preparatory course of photography, the 2nd semester the Preparatory course of intermedia, the 3rd and 5th semesters by rotating through all three studios of the department and then they choose in 6th semester home studio. At the same time, they can learn the possibility of an internship at another department to supplement their skills in the area they need or Erasmus by staying at a partner art school abroad. During the 8th semester, they implement and defend a bachelor's thesis in a studio of their choice.
After completing a bachelor's degree, graduates can continue their studies at a master's degree. Accepted students apply to one of the three studios, where they also complete a master's thesis in the 2nd year.
During their studies, students acquire and develop knowledge and supplement their experience in the field of video art (on the subjects Camera, Video editing, Sound, Video report, Video clip, etc.), classical media (Drawing, Modeling, Wood, Stone, Welding, Basics of photography, Experimental materials and others), text (Critical reading, Author's writing), as well as technologically demanding installations (Interactivity, Basics of computer modeling, 3D modeling), practical procedures (Project and production work), but also work with the body (Performance, Intermedia Laboratory), which they can apply both in their artistic practice and on the labor market. Students can develop their theoretical knowledge through the offer of several art, aesthetic and philosophical subjects.
