OPEN CALL: Studio at Koliba for AFAD Design Disciplines

Alumni club Announcements AFAD Incubator

Have you completed your master’s degree this year or recently graduated from the Department of Design, Textiles, Applied Arts or Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (AFAD)? Could you use a studio space free of charge for a year? Apply for AFAD’s open call for a studio at Koliba.

AFAD is offering several of its recent graduates in design disciplines (up to 3 years after graduation) the opportunity to apply for a studio in Bratislava, free of charge. These former administrative spaces are located in the “Dom zvuku” (House of Sound) building at Brečtanová 1, Koliba, Bratislava.

The rooms have various layouts, allowing for different types of workspaces, from individual studios to spaces shared by a group, depending on the profession and the space needed for the work. As the available capacity is limited, the number of residents we can accommodate is also restricted.

Available Spaces

This year, three smaller studios will become available, with floor areas of:

  • 14.20 m²
  • 14.36 m²
  • 14.05 m²

These studios are suitable for 1–2 people working on smaller-scale projects or whose work does not require much space, large machinery or similar facilities.

Applicants will be selected based on their submitted portfolio and/or proposed project. Selected applicants will be granted a studio for 1 year, with the possibility of renewing the contract (up to a maximum of 3 years).

At the end of the year, studio use and the projects completed will be reviewed.

Timeline

  • Application deadline: 10 November 2026 (inclusive)

  • Announcement of results: second half of November 2026

  • Studios available from: beginning of 2027
