More about the exhibition
The exhibition will be open to the public for only two days, 17 and 18 October 2026, in an industrial space at Dělnická 264 that is not normally accessible to the public.
The exhibition project presents a series of large-scale spatial installations based on work with glass, spatial drawing, light and architecture. In her works, Pavlína Šváchová combines flat and shaped glass with glass tubes and rods, which she understands as lines breaking free from paper and entering directly into space.
Light, the transparency of the material, scale and the relationship of the individual works to the surrounding architecture all play an important role in the exhibition. Simple lines transform into physical objects and create spatial situations situated on the boundary between drawing, object and architecture.
From lampworked glass to spatial drawing
The exhibition Bod 0 is the practical culmination of several years of artistic research by Pavlína Šváchová at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava on the topic Lampworked Glass as a Medium: From Figurine to the Self-Definition of Material, supervised by doc. Mgr. art. Patrik Ill.
The research focuses on the linear potential of lampworked glass and the possibilities of working with a glass rod as a line in space. The artist builds on the traditional practice of lampworking, which she shifts from small figurative objects towards abstract spatial work. During shaping over a flame, the line emerges through movement, gesture, gravity and the process of working with the material itself.
Curator Kateřina Štroblová understands the line in Pavlína Šváchová’s work not as an outline or description of reality, but as an autonomous spatial element entering into dialogue with surface, light and architecture. Glass here is neither an end in itself nor a demonstration of technological virtuosity, but a medium that allows drawing to leave the paper and acquire a physical presence.
Part of Crystal Valley Weekend 2026
The exhibition will take place as part of Crystal Valley Weekend 2026, held on 17 and 18 October. During the weekend, more than fifty glassworks, studios, museums and workshops across the Liberec Region will open their doors to the public.
Bod 0 will therefore offer visitors not only a view of contemporary glass art, but also an opportunity to visit an exceptional industrial space that is not normally accessible to the public. Both the opening and the entire exhibition are free of charge.
