Michaela Kacsiová: Meow Spa / exhibition with performance

Enter the Meow Spa, a place dedicated to relaxation and care! "Hydra-therapy" by Michaela Kacsiová, a graduate of the intermedia department at the AFAD, offers the audience on Tyršovo nábrežie an entrance to a kind of surreal intermediate space between a personal place intended for self-care and the public space of a decommissioned tram car in T3 - a cultural vehicle.

  • Opening: 20.6.2024 at 6:00 p.m.

    • *As part of the Petržalka Gallery Weekend, an author's performance for the exhibition will also take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.

Hydra as a prefix evokes water treatments but also an ancient mythical creature - it is a multi-meaning term. Together with the object installation and the author's performance, it underlines the fluidity of the understanding of individual elements that move between intimate and communal, caring and protesting.

In addition to the theme of the spa, which is a place of relaxation (for those who can afford it), Kacsiová uses two creatures to help her: a hydra and a cat. Hydra, with its multi-layered meanings throughout different historical periods, in this context represents resilience and the ability to constantly arise and disappear - isn't its main ability regeneration after injury? The cat, with its naturally free behavior, can be seen as a protest element, not submitting to the pressure of productivity and the pitfalls of precarization. She does what she wants, when she wants, and when she doesn't like something, she throws things.

By connecting these two beings in a "self-care" environment, Kacsiová encourages the courage to imagine, the randomness of the "natural" rhythm of life and the search for common non-hierarchical functioning, allowing all participants time and space for themselves and their own needs.
