Preparatory Course of Architecture

The gesture of boundary, the physical separation of a small subset of the universe, the determination of its dimensions, form, proportions, the decision on the way of its organization is one of the key situations that shape the development of human civilization since its dawn. This subset of the universe is then filled by its inhabitants with the existential experience of their being. From the essential need to live, a constructive experience is born as a part of civilizational self-consciousness and a basic substrate of culture ...

The course of architecture is aimed at acquainting students of various fields of study with the basics of architectural and structuring of space, learning about the possibilities and specifics of expression through this medium and getting acquainted with various ways of origin and creation of architectural form with emphasis on art and composition.

A characteristic moment of the preparatory course is the fact that students coming to the course have no, respectively. minimal experience with the medium in question. The aim of the course is to enable students to understand the internal logic and possibilities of the medium, its highly abstract nature and at the same time the potential enabled by work in three dimensions. The basis for this understanding becomes an awareness of the ways in which space can be architecturalized, the moment of its creation and the ways of its definition.

To achieve the above goals, studio assignments are used, which are to acquaint students with the issue of creating an architectural form with the help of various strategies.

The introductory assignments can be understood as exercises in which students get acquainted with the classical ways of creating architectural space, learn about spatial elements and principles that allow to articulate a specific type of space and achieve the desired effect. They can test the architecture of space through the addition of elements or the subtraction of matter, based on basic elements (point, line, area, space) through the knowledge of form, to create space using the principles of space organization (space in space, central, radial, linear .... ) and space perception routes. They work with proportion, axis, scale, hierarchy, rhythm ....

Another type of assignment has the ambition to prepare students for the perception of current practices in dealing with space, where they get acquainted with current ways of creating space with the help of generative and parametric strategies. Working with different types of information, their acquisition, sorting, processing and analysis become a source for non-projective methods of space creation. An important moment is the realization of the relationship between the area - graphic record and its potential for spatial interpretations. These tasks become a preparation for the formulation of new types of morphogenesis of space, leading to an architectural experiment.

During the work in the studio, emphasis is also placed on achieving certain mental preconditions of creation - concentration, attention, effort, relaxation, flexibility, (self) motivation, collection and sorting of information - all the qualities that work universally in any creative activity.

The practical part is supplemented by theoretical foundations about the medium and the principle of its creation as a starting point for understanding the assigned tasks. In the second part, a pluralistic picture of today's architecture is presented on specific examples of the work of contemporary world architects.

Throughout the process, students are guided to independently formulate a personal program and search for creative means for its fulfillment, emphasis on the continuity and continuity of individual creative steps and their consistent record, open dialogue and interaction between student and teacher.
