The lecture will present artist-run institutions in Łoź in the context of the changing political, social, economic and cultural conditions of artistic production and distribution in Poland. It focuses on the history of a series of exhibitions organized by artists in Łódź under the name Construction in Process and elsewhere abroad, and other initiatives such as Galéria Wschodnia and the Artists' Museum.
Tomasz Załuski is art historian and philosopher, he works at the Institute of Contemporary Culture at the University of Lodz and at the Academy of Fine Arts. W. Strzemiński in Łódź. His research covers modern and contemporary artistic practices in cultural, economic and socio-political contexts; artistic activism and self-organization; art documentation and archives of artistic culture; the relationship of art, praxeology and biopolitics; configurations of aesthetics, ethics and politics in the cultural project of modernity; contemporary French philosophy. Author of the book Artistic Modernism and Repetition.An attempt at reinterpretation (2008), editor of the volumes Sztuki w transmedialny space (2010), Efficiency of art (2014), Social realisms and modernizations (with A. Sumorok, 2017). Member of the editorial board of the magazines Sztuka i Dokumentacja and Hybris. Online Philosophical Magazine ”.
