About the event

The Others is a revolutionary project born to capture the language of new generations and support emerging realities. It is an experimental show that presents the most innovative national and international artistic expressions. The Others represents a choice - bold, sometimes perhaps a little harsh, but at the same time full of provocation, extravagance and creative alternative, filled with hope, determination and dynamism. The fair brings new artistic voices and trends, while the curatorial team consisting of Lýdia Pribišová, Daniela Grabosch, Elisabetta Roncati and Lorenzo Bruni has once again invited AFAD to the event, which will take place from October 31 to November 3, 2024 in Turin.

After last year's successful cooperation, the curatorial team once again turned to the artist Maja Štefančíková, who works at the Performance Laboratory at AFAD to participate together with the students in the main program of the fair. The new partner of this collaboration is Andrea Salzmann, a visual artist from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, who will join the program with her Art and Time studio.

The students of both academies will present a programme based on individual and collective creativity. Under the curatorship of the teachers, the performances focus on a wide range of artistic approaches, addressing themes of identity and care for self and the world around them. The project aims to create a space for reflection and dialogue about the challenges of the contemporary world through the work of the emerging generation.

The Academy of Fine Arts and Design will present three performances focused on the theme of therapy:

  • The pop-up hair salon We Are Open: Hair Cutting Therapy Sessions by Jelisaveta Rapaic offers therapy through touch, rethinking economic norms, and creating a safe space for trust and care.
  • The performance Be off by Silvia Sviteková explores inner monologue within the context of a crowd, expressed through both words and movement. It highlights the struggle between the internal world and the external environment, leading to a healing release.
  • The performative situation Tarot as Therapy: Finding a Way Out in Everyday Situations by Veronika Verešová uses tarot as a tool for self-discovery and inner peace. By scanning surrounding sounds, it creates a space for meditation.
