GMB x AFAD lecture: Observations from the restoration
The GMB is committed to protecting, conserving, and restoring its fine art collections, which is ensured by the team of the GMB restoration department, which also participates in the education of a new generation of restorers. Lucia Šefčíková, a doctoral student at the Department of Restoration at the AFAD, completed a several-month internship at the GMB under the supervision of Barbara Davidson, a trainer and consultant to the chief restorer of the GMB. Its purpose was the restoration of a hanging painting, belonging to a set of ten oil paintings depicting scenes from the life of St. James of Marka.

Lucie Šefčíková's lecture
will focus not only on presenting the process of restoring the work, but also on clarifying the specific criteria and factors that influenced the final form of this complex intervention. The mentioned works of the series are interconnected not only in terms of content by the choice of subject, but also in the very way of their realization. Nevertheless, this set of works is proof that the research that inevitably accompanies the conservation-restoration intervention can reveal the differences characteristic of each work of art in its unique authenticity.
