DAFI Scholarship Programme for Ukrainian Students

The VŠVU Student Support and Counselling Department would like to bring to the attention of Ukrainian students the opportunity to apply for a UNHCR scholarship under the DAFI programme for the 2026/2027 academic year. Applications must be submitted by 31 August 2026.

The DAFI Scholarship Programme supports students with refugee status, asylum seekers, and persons granted temporary protection in Slovakia in pursuing undergraduate studies. The scholarship may contribute towards the costs of accommodation, food, local transport, study materials and, in some cases, registration or tuition fees.

Applicants must:

  • have refugee status, have applied for asylum, or have been granted temporary protection in Slovakia;
  • be under 28 years of age at the start of their studies;
  • have been admitted to an undergraduate programme at a Slovak higher education institution, or already be enrolled in an undergraduate programme with more than two years of study remaining;
  • be proficient in the language of instruction;
  • require financial support to pursue their studies;
  • not be receiving a scholarship from another source.

The programme does not support Master’s studies or applicants who already hold a higher education degree. Persons holding temporary residence in Slovakia are not eligible unless they also have one of the above-mentioned international protection statuses or temporary protection.

The scholarship may be renewed annually for up to four years, subject to regular class attendance, successful academic progress and participation in DAFI programme activities.

  • Application deadline: 31 August 2026
  • How to apply: through the DAFI online portal

Detailed eligibility criteria and a link to the application form are available on the UNHCR Slovakia website.
