Technotextual Poetics in Postdigital Artistic Practice and Creative Subversion in Neural Network Culture

  • Public habilitation lecture and defense of the habilitation thesis by AFAD Bratislava university lecturer Mgr. Zuzana Panák Husárová, PhD., titled Technotext Poetics in Post-Digital Artistic Practice and Creative Subversion in Neural Network Culture. Field of habilitation proceedings: Fine Arts.
  • “It´s not possible to constantly hone in on the crisis. You have to have the love and you have to have the magic, that´s also life,” Toni Morrison said about creative artistic expression in times of political unrest. The correlation of digitality with performativity, interactivity with hapticity, intermediality with social engagement, randomness with concrete dramaturgy, and lyricism with kinetic aesthetics offers space for the perception of post-digital works as means for viewing current artistic trends co-created by digital technologies. “Flickering signifier” – a term postulated by N. Katherine Hayles to name the transformative variability of the digital sign becomes a metonym for the impulses of emotional affect and immersive experience that post-digital works can evoke. We classify works that, through their creative use of the generative approach of artificial neural networks, prove that even synthetic works abound in the potential for social, political, or gender engagement, while their artistic value is directly related to the cultural capital we attribute to them..
