Lets talk about photography! - 30 years of the Department of Photography and New Media at AFAD

Today's society is oversaturated with photographic images and information, and it is becoming increasingly immune to other images created. The study of photography is one of the essential parts of education in the current socio-political situation. The Department of Photography and New Media provides the teaching process within the photographic medium in the following year for the jubilee 30 years since its establishment at the AFAD in Bratislava. Its concept has changed in various years over the years and has successfully combined the study of analog and digital photography, new technologies and video. In each of its years of operation, it reflected the current content of contemporary art within the photographic medium, crossing its boundaries towards multimedia processes. The planned exhibition on the occasion of the 30th anniversary will reflect and introduce to the public the development of photography in Slovakia through the history of the Department of Photography and New Media.

By presenting the works of department graduates from the last three decades and current students, the public is presented with a wide variability of the photographic medium. For not only a chronological record of the development of Slovak photography, but also the complexity of the photographic image and outputs, the overall concept of the exhibition will consist of an invited team of experts from Slovakia and abroad.

The current double exhibition will take place in the MEDIUM Gallery and the UMELKA Gallery in Bratislava. The exhibition will offer the general public an open platform for dialogue on the photographic medium, a unique reflection of the medium and the development of photography in Slovakia in the combination of visual art and technical image.
