Cross-border cooperation of design institutions in the digital age

The subject of the project is the creation of Slovak-Austrian research cooperation on the topic "Design and Innovation", within which the first research topics will be processed and the current research results will be presented. In the future, it is planned to build an internationally networked think tank within the program area, which will research the latest design knowledge and find answers and solutions to the question of how people can make optimal use of current technological progress resulting from the digital revolution and how to avoid predictable problems.

Project description:

The partner organizations in the project are professional institutions for design and applied arts - in Bratislava the Slovak Center for Design (SCD) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (VŠVU), in Vienna MAK - Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst / Gegenwartskunst and Die Angewandte - Universität für ange Art in Vienna. The project is supported by six strategic partners (on the Slovak side the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, the Bratislava self-governing region and the Cvernovka Foundation, on the Austrian side the Austrian Institute of Technology, Kunsthalle Wien and Architekturzentrum Wien). A new Research and Development Department will be set up within the SCD project, the Departments of Design and Textile Creation will be involved in the project within the VŠVU, the Austrian partners will use existing structures for cooperation ("Social Design" department at Die Angewandte; Design und digitale Kultur ”, which will be extended to research topics).

Within the project, experts (4 full-time) will be employed or recruited to work agreements, who will cooperate and lead a dialogue with design researchers and experts from other disciplines in the created professional teams. In addition to the use of modern communication technologies, mutual communication will also take place through workshops, panel discussions and a conference of experts.

Special attention will be paid in the project to the communication of joint research topics and results from it. For this purpose, the existing communication and presentation formats of the partners will be used. In 2019, the Vienna Biennale 2019 will be held in Bratislava for the first time, thus motivating the public to deal with the topic of "Design & Innovation" within the entire program area.
