The Most Beautiful Books of Slovakia 2021
At the ceremony at the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, the most beautiful books in Slovakia were awarded on June 9. Bibiana - International House of Arts for Children has been organizing this event for thirty years in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak National Library and the Polygraphy Association in Slovakia.
The competition for the most beautiful books evaluates the artistic level and quality of polygraphic processing of books published in the previous year. We are very happy that the works of our students created at the Department of Printmaking and Other Media were also awarded this year.
In the category "Student works from art academies and printing schools", in addition to the two students mentioned, Helena Koťová Štefanková with the book Kontesa and Daniela Vagašová with the work Earth Universe were awarded as well.
184 books have been accepted in the competition this year. The books entered in the competition are evaluated in seven categories: scientific and professional literature, fine literature, literature for children and youth, textbooks, books on fine arts and picture publications, bibliophilic press, books of students of art and printing schools. The books are judged by a 15-member expert jury according to artistic and polygraphic values, as well as according to the interplay of all components of the book as such: suitable book format, used paper, used font, binding, colour solution of print, reproduction of illustrations, etc. Every year, an award-winning collection is created, which contains a maximum of 20 books. They must meet demanding artistic and technical criteria and are declared the most beautiful books in Slovakia.
Congratulations to all winners!
