About the exhibition

Together with the works of young, emerging artists, the work of authors established on the art scene will be presented with the ambition of building an intergenerational dialogue.

Fresh graduates and students from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava created new works during the summer residency at 4D Gallery. Not only sculptural works, objects and spatial installations will be presented, but also painting, ceramics, textiles and videos.

The dominant problems of today such as climate crisis, air pollution, soil erosion, extinction of animal species, loss of biodiversity and extinction of ecosystems are the most alarming consequences of the accelerated increase in human activity. The proposed strategies, which were supposed to solve the looming crises, such as the principle of sustainability, recycling, mineral economy, do not yet indicate a change of course. In the era of rapid changes, when the conditions for all living organisms are changing in the world, drawing attention to environmental issues is even more topical and urgent.

The title of the exhibition is based on the book publication of the same name by Thomas H. Eriksen, in which he describes the contemporary world on the background of the accumulation of global crises in the Anthropocene era. Similar to the publication, the exhibition is a broad-spectrum probe into environmental issues and offers an overview of various authors' approaches to the ecological topic.
