u strún #44: Margita Jágerová – Funeral Songs and Stories

Together with recent graduate Richard Hronský, we warmly invite you to Rómerov dom this weekend for u strún #44: Funeral Songs and Stories. In a talk and singing workshop, ethnologist Margita Jágerová will explore death in traditional culture in Slovakia.

  • Venue: Rómerov dom
  • Suggested voluntary contribution: €5

This Sunday’s u strún gathering will reflect the weekend’s commemorative holidays, with a singing workshop and a talk on death in traditional culture in Slovakia. Ethnologist and associate professor Margita Jágerová will guide you through this world. She will introduce traditional beliefs, customs and rituals surrounding death and dying, before teaching us songs associated with bidding farewell to the deceased.

A gentle note: the talk will include vivid depictions and accounts of death, often involving loved ones and families. If this subject is difficult for you, this Sunday’s gathering at u strún may also be emotionally challenging.
