At its December meeting, the jury composed of the announcers' representatives decided that the winner of the Personality of Slovak Photography 2021 award was ĽUBO STACHO, a professor at the AFAD from the Department of Photography and New Media and the head of the Studio Photography Laboratory, and the winner of the Photographer of the Year 2021 award is our last year's graduate of the Department of Photography and New Media Kvet Nguyen (Hoa Nguyen Thi).

Ľubo Stacho (1953), graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Technical University in Bratislava (1976) and FAMU in Prague (1985). In 1990, he founded the department of photography at the AFAD, where he still runs the Studio Photography Laboratory. The scope of his work is wide from documentary photography to art projects, performances and installations. In 2010, he was appointed professor. He is the holder of several awards, the International Photo Biennial, the Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Tokyo (1995), the 1st prize in the competition of the UNESCO World Heritage Fund Prague (1993) and others. So far, he has organized 73 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 287 group exhibitions, e.g. Mattress Factory Pittsburgh 1995, Tokyo Biennale 1995, Photo Fest Houston 1996, Photo Gallery Vienna 1997, Ljubljana 1998, Tel Aviv 2000, GMB Bratislava 2007, 2019. He was a visiting professor at the Universities of Ghent, Amsterdam, Budapest, Nottingham, Providence and New Jersey, Jerusalem and Lahti. He has exhibited independently in Pittsburgh, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Berlin and other cities. His photographs can be found in the world's collections.


Kvet Nguyen (Hoa Nguyen Thi) was born in 1995. She graduated from the AFAD with a bachelor's and master's degree in photography. She received the Tatra Banka Foundation's award in the Young Creator category in 2021. Her bachelor's thesis was awarded second place at the World Biennial of Student Photography in 2019. The master's thesis entitled Mutual Otherness received an honorable mention at the European Diploma Thesis Exhibition (Startpoint prize). She was also a finalist in SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO in the Students and Young Under 26 category in 2018. Kvet Nguyen is actively involved in issues of difference and identity not only in her art projects, but also tries to talk openly about it in interviews or other platforms.
