Patrik Illo – Theory of scarcity
We cordially invite you to opening Patrik Illo's solo exhibition
NOVA Gallery, Baštová 2, Bratislava
Open: TU - FRI 13:00 - 18:00
Duration of the exhibition: from 30 September 2022 to 30 October 2022
Curator: Silvia L. Čúzyová
The exhibition Theory of Scarcity is a "one-act play" realized in the intimate spaces of Bratislava's Nova Gallery. It thematizes, on the one hand, the constant or chronic lack of time and the pressure to perform, which is a characteristic feature of our time, and also an integral part of creative or academic life. The antithesis is defined in the Western world as the "slow professor" method or the demand to return to the space for a quality intellectual life without constant quantifiers and qualifiers of creative work. On the other hand, this improvisational exhibition act is a celebration of immediate creativity and admirable energy, which is linked to the personality of creator, organizer, designer and educator Patrik Illo. Presented is a collection of drawings and sketches, existing in paper or material form, which were the product of an inspired moment or, on the contrary, the result of concentrated work and over time more or less materialized into designer glass products or free creative work.
doc. Mgr. art. Patrik Illo (1973)
is a designer and visual artist. Glass design by Patrik Illo is characterized by respect for functionality, minimalism, elegance of clean lines and an emphasis on the ultimate mastery of glass technology. However, it is humor, lightness and the desire to experiment that give his works a special signature. Although his work is primarily oriented towards glass design, he also constantly creates within the framework of free art, especially objects and installations. In addition to his creative work, he teaches and leads the glass studio at the Applied Arts Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava and also works as a chief designer at RONA, a.s. He participated in dozens of individual and collective exhibitions and received numerous domestic and international awards for his glass design.
