Annotation

The museum has prepared an exhibition of contemporary designer jewelery Computer&Jewellery, which is part of the Jablonec 2023 International Triennial of Glass and Bijoux. The selected authors respond with their works to the topic of the influence of computing technology on our society, both in a positive and negative sense.

They created author's jewellery, for which they used artistically interesting parts, data carriers and other structural elements of computers, mobile phones and other devices. Some cleverly incorporated computer slang into their works, others succumbed to the magic of creation through computer programs cooperating with CNC machining, laser or 3D printing. "The special creativity of artificial intelligence was also used, and several authors also devote themselves to a deeper reflection on the topic of communication and the disintegration of civilization as a result of overuse of technology or fascination with artificial intelligence, which even created some jewellery," said the curator of the exhibition, Kateřina Nora Nováková.

The exhibited works reflect the unique artistic expression of each of the four dozen authors, but also the deeper thought subtext of individual personalities on the subject of the influence of computer technology on human culture. Visitors to the exhibition will find jewels in the form of a Trojan horse, a black box, a blue screen of death or a plant network similar to the Internet.

The exhibition includes the works of five authors who participated in the international jewellery symposium organized by the museum this June. It was a follow-up to the Jablonec jewelry symposiums from 1968, 1971 and 2008 and took place in the workshop of the Department of Design of the Textile Faculty of the Technical University in Liberec. "The task of the participants, in addition to the representation of the given theme, was to use metal or glass costume jewellery components, which connect the works with traditional apple production," added the director of the museum, Milada Valečková. A catalog of the same name was also published for the exhibition.
