About the concert
A dialogue about moving sound objects and a concert of post-digital compositions.
Martin Štefánik is a doctoral student at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (Post-digital musical instruments in performative environments). His research explores how the concept of the musical instrument is changing in the post-digital era, when sound is not merely the result of digital processing but of the physical interaction between material, space and an algorithm.
His project Kinetic Composition presents a series of live performances in which music emerges through direct contact with movement, material and space. Listeners are invited into an environment where the boundaries between performer, instrument and audience dissolve.
The conversation with Martin Štefánik will explore how his compositions take shape through kinetic sound objects: instruments he has built himself, at the intersection of sculpture, machine and musical instrument.
The concert offers an opportunity to hear compositions performed by the composer himself. According to Štefánik, Kinetic Composition is both an experimental laboratory and a poetic gesture: an attempt to return music to materiality, movement and shared space at a time when most sounds live only on screens.
