Annotation

The publication Umelecký výskum v diskusii (Art Research in Discussion), which the reader is now holding, is published by the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava as part of its Art Research edition. The book is a collection of texts presented at a conference with international participation.

As the title suggests, the book engages in the ongoing debate on the nature of artistic research as one of the major lines of artistic creation. Its individual chapters address several key themes of this debate, such as the relationship between artistic research and artistic creation, the relation between artistic and scientific research, the procedures and methods of artistic research, the possibilities of generalization and uniqueness of artistic knowledge, forms of artistic research across different art disciplines, historical forms of artistic research, and the refinement of the conceptual apparatus used in the analysis of artistic research. In this scope and complexity, the book represents a remarkable contribution to the discourse on artistic research in both Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The authors of the individual chapters are leading experts from both countries who have long been engaged in the field. The book includes a high-quality visual appendix and will undoubtedly appeal to a broader artistic and cultural audience.
