About the exhibition:
The Studio of Photography, led by Silvia Saparová, was established in 2007 out of an intense need to combine visual practice and the development of the visual language of photography directly with the theory and philosophy of the photographic medium. At that time, the medium of photography was in the period of the so-called post-photography, photography after the advent of digital media. It is for these reasons that it has become necessary to reconsider the questions about the nature and significance of the photographic medium and its image. At the Department of the Photography and New Media Studio of Photography opened and gradually in the time horizon from 2007 to 2022 constantly creates a platform for discussion "about photography" - about the past, present and future of the photographic medium.
The exhibition is divided into three blocks:
ALUMNI: The young generation of graduates of the Studio of Photography, established on the Slovak and international scene. The authors move in a wide range of photographic media and technical image, oscillating between photography, installation, video and procedurality. Each of the authors has their own unmistakable style, as well as a line of content dealing with current issues, or directly the nature and essence of the photographic medium.
GRADUATES: Diploma theses of students of the Master's study Studio of Photography. The results of three different diploma researches, three different visual strategies creating a picture of the current situation. The graduates each use a different position in the photographic medium, building on their previous projects, completing two years of master's studies.
CURRENT STUDENTS: The most current from the process of the Studio of Photography. A new generation exploring the evolving situation of the photographic medium. It combines the analysis of previous procedures with current visual, content and installation approaches, moving sovereignly in the post-digital environment and foreshadowing new visual expression.
