The motivation for publishing these scripts was to provide basic information on restoration research and restoration of historical textiles within the framework of textile restoration teaching. The scripts were created within the framework of the KEGA project No. 001VŠVU – 4/2014 entitled Restoration and research of a set of sacral textiles of the 18th and 19th centuries from the collection of the SNM-Historical Museum in Bratislava. The intention to prepare a project focused on sacral textiles – a specific group of cultural heritage artifacts, objects with a special artistic and cultural-historical value and at the same time objects that are increasingly entering museum collections and restoration studios – was a reaction to the current state of their knowledge in Slovakia. Apparently the strongest impetus for the creation of the project was practical needs and the feeling of information deficit repeatedly appearing in interviews with experts from areas of professional interest in textile restoration. The scripts will also find application in the study of other textile disciplines and in the work of curators of textile collections or art historians.
