Juraj Gábor is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, the studio of prof. Anton Čierny. He currently works at the Department of Intermedia as an assistant professor. The work Completing the Sphere, which was created in the New Synagogue in Žilina, is a vision of a monumental architectural transformation of space. The wooden structure on the border of architecture and sculpture draws attention to the invisible sphere, which was drawn by the architect Peter Behrens into the cube of the synagogue building from 1931. Juraj Gábor devoted four years of preparations to Sphera program in it. The architecture of the Sphera became a stage for exhibitions, sound projects, theater, movement and dance performances, as well as an educational and community program for 2021 and part of 2022.

DESIGN

Andrej & Andrej/Andrej Čanecký & Andrej Barčák for the visual identity of The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava

Andrej Čanecký a Andrej Barčák, graphic designers

Andrej Čanecký and Andrej Barčák studied promotional printmaking at the Josef Vydra School of Arts and Crafts and visual communication at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Visual identities are historically evolving. The visual identity of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design has not undergone significant evolution or revolution. The young designers created a new identity using the method of speculative design, as well as its entire alternative historical evolution, which is based on the coat of arms of Count Pálffy, patron of the arts and the original owner of the school building. The coat of arms with a deer motif is changing its appearance throughout history, reflecting not only political changes but also artistic styles. The tailor-made font is based on the logotype, which determines the structure of the font and completes the overall visual identity of the school.

FINE ARTS

Kvet Nguyen (Hoa Nguyen Thi) for the exhibition Reframing Possibilities, Soda Gallery & on-line

Kvet Nguyen, photographer

This year Kvet Nguyen graduated in photography from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. "When I was little, I wanted to write a book about a world with connected continents and no borders. Today I find a painful past with cracks in the present. This is proved by photographs, which for me are not only a proof of existing history, but also a link to my second home, which my parents left. However, the medium of photography is often an instrument of power at the cost of humiliating others and privileging the powerful. I turn to the past and find common denominators in the present - not only in political strategies, but also in the growing trauma that affects my Slovak-Vietnamese identity. Today, I no longer hope for the boundlessness of all countries, but I am looking for ways out of recurring history, "says Kvet Nguyen about her exhibition.
