Supplementary pedagogical study

AFAD provides Supplementary pedagogical study (DPŠ) in order to enable AFAD graduates to acquire pedagogical competence for the educational activity of a teacher of art subjects in the art departments of basic art schools and at secondary vocational schools. SPS follows up on professional artistic training in fine arts, restoration design or architectural creation. SPS is a separate study module (credits are not awarded for DPŠ subjects, nor can they be chosen within the study programs as elective subjects). The study is divided into four semesters.

It takes place in two forms:

1. in the full-time form of study for AFAD students in parallel with the study. It is possible to enroll in it from the 4th year of bachelor's study; ends with a final exam during the master's study. A student who does not complete the DPŠ as part of full-time study may submit an application for an external form of study. The full-time form of study is charged according to the internal regulations of the AFAD with a one-time payment of 100 € for the final exam. The student gains access to study materials on the school network and to specialized study literature. Lectures and exercises take place in person.
2. in the external form of study for graduates of master's study programs at AFAD, resp. for students and graduates from master's degree programs from other schools, from those fields of study in which the AFAD has accredited master's degree programs (or graduates of corresponding study programs from foreign schools). The external form of study is charged according to the internal regulations of the AFAD in the amount of 300 € per semester (from academic year 2026/2027).. The student gains access to study materials on the school network and to specialized study literature. Lectures and exercises are usually held in the form of online block classes on Saturdays, sometimes in person. Consultations are held remotely online. Study in the academic year 2026/2027 in the external form begins on October 10, 2026 (1st year students – 1st meeting in presence form at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Drotárska cesta 44).

The condition for completing the DPŠ and taking the final exam before the examination commission is the completion of all exams, pedagogical practice and the submission of a written theoretical work on didactics. The certificate of completion of studies is issued after the completion of the master's study.
