Oksana Sadovenko, Kasha Potrohosh, Taia Kolesnyk in White & Weiss Gallery

We cordially invite You to exhibition of three Ukrainian students in the premises of the White & Weiss gallery. It is a spontaneous initiative of gallerist Zuzana Weissová, which arose from visits to semester-long student semester exhibitions of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. In the post-pandemic period, semester exhibitions began to be held again at the time of the ongoing, intensely experienced and perceived military conflict in Ukraine. The work of the authors, the dialogue with the pedagogical supervision of the 3EAM studio and the gallerist encouraged us to cooperate and to create a free participatory cooperation between the authors, the Department of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the White & Weiss gallery.

About the Exhibition

The project presents three authors, Oksana Sadovenko, Kasha Potrohosh and Taia Kolesnyk, in a free multimedia installation consisting of their latest paintings, drawings and objects.

The ability of the  authors to conduct a dialogue with a new environment, in a new country, is essential, despite the difficult life situation and the initial language barrier, which is already a thing of the past for all three. In this regard, art has the advantage that it does not have to confine itself in its expression to the language, cultural context, environment of the country, because its language is universal.

the AFAD provides all three with a suitable, tolerant environment for developing their creative potential, adds human approach and empathy. This also has a positive effect on other students and mutually enriches them.

Oksana, Kasha and Taia are artists with a powerful statement, fueled by their own empirical experience with the senselessness of the Russian-led war in Ukraine, which directly and subliminally enters their works.

Gallery holidays a.k.a. the "cucumber" or summer term in the artistic operation has been a thing of the past for a long time. Art has no holidays or summer. Europe changed after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the abstraction of the threat of war turned into a daily experience that we thought did not concern us.
