The World in Relation

We are pleased to present a series of lectures and workshops by guest professor, theorist and curator Maria Hlavajova entitled The World in Relation.

The lecture series and series of workshops entitled The World in Relation is brought during the summer semester 2022 by Studio vvv (Department of Intermedia) through the Institute of Representation, which was organized by an exceptional team consisting of curator and pedagogue, as well as artistic director and founder of BAK, basis voor actuele kunst Maria Hlavajova (Amsterdam, Utrecht), researcher and artist Kristína Országhová (Prague, Bratislava) and artist and pedagogue at the AFAD, assistant at the Studio vvv Dávid Koronczi.

Hlavajova has impressive experience as a curator, pedagogue, writer or organizer. From 2008 to 2006, she was the Research and Artistic Director of the FORMER WEST Collective Research, Exhibition and Education Project, which culminated in the publication of Former West: Art and the Contemporary After 1989 (which she co-edited with Simon Sheikh, MIT Press, 2016). Hlavajova initiated and (co) organized a number of projects inside and outside BAK, including the series Propositions for Non-Fascist Living (2017 – ongoing), Future Vocabularies (2014–2017), New World Academy (with Jonas Staal, 2013–2016), in addition to many other international (research and pedagogical) projects. She lectures at HKU University of Arts in Utrecht. In addition, Hlavajova is a co-founder (with Kathrin Rhomberg) of the tranzit network.
