Piotr Sikora: Hacking, cooking, curating

The Department of Theory and History of Art warmly invites you to a lecture by Piotr Sikora as part of the course Curatorial Studies.

Room 301, AFAD, Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18

Annotation

"Being a curator requires skills that could be attributed to more than twenty different professions – from production to writing, cooking, hosting, and even leading a therapeutic session or a reality show. In my lecture, I would like to present several curatorial projects I have initiated over the past ten years and attempt to trace what might be the key to ‘hacking’ the art system. I will talk about exhibitions such as Czech Pope (MeetFactory, 2014), Slav Squatting and Its Discontents (MeetFactory, 2018), The Sea of Cheese (Trafostacja, 2023), and others. At the same time, I will introduce more experimental curatorial formats such as Gastrofaza. The Food Symposium reality show, Slav Squatting Petržalka, and The Picnic at the Flame."

Piotr Sikora

Piotr Sikora, born in 1986 in Kraków, is a critic and curator of contemporary art. In his practice, he draws inspiration from sauna culture, fried cheese, mycology, and awkwardness. He is a curator at the Museum of Art and Design Benešov, raises two children, and is an obsessive cyclist.

A group of people sit and squat in a gallery space around a yellow car with open doors during a performative or discussion-based event. T-shirts and graphic works are displayed on the walls, and the audience informally gathers around the central action.
