Ján Kralovič – Lettering and Text as Visual Aspects of the Book (Typogames and Typographic Illustration in the Czechoslovak Context of the 1960s–1980s)
We cordially invite you to a lecture by a guest from the Department of Theory and History of Art, Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava
Faculty of Education, Comenius University
Šoltésovej 4, Bratislava, Room No. 402
The lecture focuses on the motif of typographic illustration and experiments with letters as signs and typography within book and magazine design. It explores the Czechoslovak art scene of the second half of the 20th century, with particular attention to Slovak authors and artists. Emphasis is placed on the visual qualities of book (typographic) illustration as well as on illustrated images where text and letterform (or typographic sign) play a dominant role. A specific recurring motif in this context is the calligram or ideogram.
The lecture will include a visual presentation featuring digitized images and examples of books and periodicals.
