Annotation:
The lecture will introduce Denisa Tomková's new book, Empowering Aesthetics. Contemporary Art from Post-Socialist Central Europe, which will be published by Bloomsbury next year. The artistic strategies explored in this book are essential tools for supporting the emancipatory consciousness of marginalized communities. The book Empowering Aesthetics brings together case studies from the post-socialist Central European region (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) to show how art can provide critical support to gendered, sexually and racially conditioned individuals.
