Part I: Khóra in general
BLS2 is a lecture series by a3kat, where our guests reflect on their relationship to the landscape and offer possible answers to the questions we are currently exploring:
What is the relationship between architecture and landscape? Can a landscape—or its fragments—be considered architecture? What conditions must a landscape meet to become architecture? Which processes inherent to the formation of landscapes could inspire the making of architecture?
Landscape is our primary environment, and just as our biological needs, our cultural expressions stem from life within it. Elements of living and non-living nature, as well as their natural processes, have always been present in the creation of architecture. Architecture draws on the landscape’s visual diversity and material foundations, which form its natural base. However, the state of the landscape today is far from satisfactory. Its global decline and local degradation signal the urgency of renewed attention. We need to develop effective tools for its protection and attempt to conceive it in close connection with architectural creation.
The Brown Lecture Series has been created with the financial support of the project KEGA 002VŠVU-4/2025.
