Art historians Barbora Špičáková and Irena Lehkoživová will present the activities of two independent institutions in which they have been working for a long time.
In 2016, they opened the VI PER gallery focused on architecture and its social implications. Since then, they have organized more than 25 exhibitions with a rich accompanying program. The themes of the exhibitions touch on broader social issues and their relationship to architecture and art.
With its program, the gallery wants to point out the great potential of architecture and art in society, to show new connections and stimuli. Gallery VI PER opens space for interdisciplinary research and discussion, publishes books, organizes lectures. The gallery also includes a bookstore focused on architecture.
The second institution is the Archive of Fine Arts, which was founded in the 1980s by Jiří Hůla as part of Gallery H in Kostelec nad Černými lesy. Since then, the Archive has grown considerably, currently over 2km of archives are stored here. The purpose of the Archive is to collect and consistently process an extensive collection of documents, especially Czech and Slovak fine arts of the 20th and 21st centuries – catalogs, monographs, invitations, books, magazines, photographs, etc., often printed materials that are not collected anywhere else. The archive operates a study room and archival warehouses in Prague 4 in Nuslí, as well as a library for the public in the Contemporary Art Center DOX in Prague 7 Holešovice. Saved documents are processed in the freely accessible abART database (www.isabart.org). The archive prepares exhibitions, holds lectures, processes bibliographies and publishes publications.
