Alexey Yurenev – Silent Hero
The Department of Photography and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava invites you to an artist talk with Alexey Yurenev, a Fulbright Specialist and visiting educator leading the Model Zoo visiting studio.
- Venue: Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Hviezdoslavovo námestie 18, Bratislava
- Room 135, first floor
Photography, Artificial Intelligence, and Historical Memory
In this talk, Yurenev will present Silent Hero, an ongoing artistic research project investigating the relationship between photography, artificial intelligence, historical memory, and the limits of representation. Originating in his grandfather’s experiences during the Second World War and his lifelong silence about them, the project examines how images mediate historical knowledge and participate in the construction of collective memory. Through archival research, generative technologies, and encounters with surviving war veterans, Yurenev explores the tensions between testimony, imagination, and photographic evidence.
The talk will trace the development of Silent Hero across different artistic forms, including the artist book Seeing Against Seeing and the short film No One Is Forgotten. Both works will be presented in the space and available to experience after the talk.
