Caroline Achaintre

Caroline Achaintre is an artist living and working in London. Her work heavily draws from animism, expressionism, theatricality, and craftsmanship, incorporating art historical references to German expressionism, primitivism, the Arts & Crafts movement, and Fauvism.

Both thematically and formally, the artist explores the Central European carnival and Masopust traditions. Influences from horror and sci-fi find their way into her creative practice, as well as an exploration of how ethnological collections are presented in museums.

Caroline Achaintre’s work uniquely employs traditional techniques such as tapestry, drawing, and ceramics.
At the intersection of abstraction and realism, she works with materials like wool, ceramics, and watercolor, allowing for a spontaneous, intuitive approach.

She has participated in numerous residencies and exhibited in many venues, including London’s Saatchi Gallery, Cell Project Space (London), and Eastside Projects in Birmingham.
