The position of the student section of AS AFAD on the prime minister's statements

The student part of the Academic Senate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava fundamentally condemns the statements of the current Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Róbert Fico, and joins the position of the Student Council for Higher Education and other universities.

We express our support to Marek Janiga, a student of the Faculty of Law of the Comenius University, who became the target of this attack, but also to the students of the Faculty of Law of the UK, who clearly formulated the problematic parts and tried to dialogue, which is so important in the academic environment.

We condemn any attacks on students by a representative of the state or other public officials. It is precisely such personal attacks from a position of power that arouse an extremist mood in society, which can lead to further evil. Even with regard to the events of the present day, we consider it important that the academic environment remains a safe, free and professional environment, with an effort to preserve the possibility of discussion.

The students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava stand behind all those who call for discussion and argue critically in situations that are important for the further development of the Slovak Republic and the democratic principles from which it is based.
