Projects from AFAD nominated for NCD 2024
We are very happy that this year the works of our students from the Department of Visual Communication were among the nominated projects in the Student Design category for the National Design Award - Communication Design!
The nominated projects are:
EuroTypes by Adrián Dvorský, Monika Juríková and Ester Mládenková
"EuroTypes is a book that presents fonts created at the Studio Typolab at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava from 2009 to the present day. The 900-page publication contains 271 fonts. The fonts are presented through three imaginary units - sketches, character lists and the use of the font - through the metaphor of Ecce Homo, which forms a partition between the individual parts separated by the color of the border. The unique system in which the specific font of each unit has the same number helps in orientation. The fourth unit consists of descriptions of these fonts and conversations with Typolab teachers and the authors themselves. The external form of the book is an alternative version of the European flag."
Publication entitled Initial Initiative Initialization of Initials by Simona Császárová
"The publication explores the phenomenon of initials not only from history to the present, but also looks at the initial and its meaning as such. Above its possible meanings, as well as its relation to the text and the whole of the book itself. The author collects various pictorial and written materials and describes the initial from different perspectives. It deals with terms that discuss initials in connection with, for example, illustration, illumination, ornament, pattern, rubrication, as well as terms related to the use of initials in a book, marginalia, headings or chapters, as well as related initials, such as emblem, calligram, hanko , seal, signature. The publication is also made up of initials designed by the author herself, which in some places complement the text in various ways. The publication is the result of a diploma work at the Department of Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design."
In addition to students, the teachers of the department Palo Bálik, Marcel Benčík and Michal Tornyai, as well as several of our graduates, are nominated for the award for their projects.
Congratulations to all!
