OPEN CALL: "Reveal blood cancer" project

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

• The "Reveal blood cancer" project has a 7-year tradition behind, and its goal is to contribute to the improvement of oncological care and the lives of patients with blood cancer in Slovakia. The term blood cancer covers more than 140 different types of cancer - including multiple myeloma, which is the second most common type of blood cancer.
• Last year in September, patients with multiple myeloma decided to share their personal stories with the public in an unconventional way - they put them in an artistic publication called "Revealed", in which they are also accompanied by their photos. You can read the publication (in Slovak language) - here.
• When you look at the photos of these patients, you will have a hard time recognizing that you are looking at people who have experienced cancer. There are stories of patients who, thanks to early diagnosis and treatment, returned to life. They are proof of what investments in healthcare and people's health really bring and what these people give back to the country and society thanks to it.

REQUIREMENTS:

• We are looking for students who will tell one of the three stories of patients from the publication "Revealed" using different artistic mediums and help spread these inspiring stories.
• We welcome a variety of artistic techniques and forms of expression, including digital art.

PREČO SA ZAPOJIŤ:

• You will become part of a project that combines art with a socially important topic and authentic stories of patients, and you will contribute with your work to spreading awareness of these serious diseases, as well as to how oncology patients are perceived in Slovakia.
• You will have the opportunity to exhibit your work at the opening ceremony in the Umelka Gallery.
• We will reward your work and interpretation with a grant of 300-500€ (depending on the amount of material costs and other needs associated with your artistic creation).

WHY JOIN:

• If you are interested in participating in the "Reveal blood cancer" project, send us your suggestions on how you would process the selected patient story and this topic, either in the form of a sketch, idea, annotation or other materials that will help us get to know your idea and creation more closely to pr@vsvu.sk until February 29, 2024.

• Evaluation of the open call: March 11, 2024

• The selected artists will be contacted and informed about the next steps.
