Obituary

With deep sorrow, we inform you that on April 20, 2025, painter and visual artist Professor Vladimír Popovič passed away at the age of 85. 

After 1989, Vladimír Popovič joined the Department of Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, where he led the Studio of Free Printmaking for over twenty years. His studio was characterized by a constant crossing of boundaries between printmaking and painting, objects, installation, and performative forms of art. He encouraged his students to seek their own themes and expressive language. The openness of the studio stemmed from his own artistic practice, which knew no media or content boundaries.

Vladimír Popovič was one of the most significant Slovak artists, with his works included in many domestic and international collections.
