Closure of the call for the resignation of Minister Šimkovičová
We have published a call for the resignation of the Minister of Culture Martina Šimkovičová on January 17 and ended shortly after 10:00 p.m. on January 26, 2024.
We thank all the signatories for the massive support, which we did not expect when the call was announced and which did not subside even after attempts at intimidation and misleading information from various sources, including the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
More than 180,000 people have signed the call (after the appeal is closed, individual signatures of signatories who signed the appeal before its end, but confirmed their email later, may still be added). We will check the signatures and publish the results as well as the next steps.
We are particularly pleased with the wave of solidarity and the will to organize across a wide cultural and artistic spectrum, which this initiative has accelerated and intensified. At the same time, we are aware that the call crossed the border of the cultural community and became a society-wide response to the arrogant and incompetent performance of political power. The call connected cultural actors and actresses from all regions of Slovakia, public institutions and organizations not established by public administration, cultural centers, representatives of contemporary and traditional art forms, various cultural associations, platforms and individuals active in culture. A strong voice has formed that cannot be ignored or silenced. This kind of cohesion will be crucial for art and culture in the coming years.
Even after the end of the signature campaign, other institutions continue to support the call and express their support in the form of their own statements.
Since the main reasons stated in the call still persist, we once again call on Mrs. Martina Šimkovičová to resign from the position of Minister of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
Thank you for your support and we will continue with the next steps!
