OPEN CALL: Studio at Koliba for Design Disciplines

Did you finish your master’s degree this year or recently graduate from the Department of Design, Textiles, Applied Arts, or Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (AFAD)? Would you benefit from having a free studio space for one year? Apply for AFAD’s open call for a studio at Koliba.

AFAD is offering several of its recent graduates (up to 3 years after graduation) from design-related disciplines the opportunity to apply for a studio space in Bratislava, free of charge. These are former administrative spaces located in the “Dom zvuku” (House of Sound) building at Brečtanová 1, Koliba, Bratislava.

The rooms in the building have various layouts, allowing for different types of workspaces — from individual to group-shared spaces — depending on the profession and spatial needs for the work. As the available capacity is limited, the number of residents we can accommodate will also be restricted.

Available Spaces

This year, several studios will become available:

  • Small studio (approx. 14 m²) – for 1–2 people
  • Large studio (approx. 20 m²) – groups (2 or more people) will be prioritized

Applicants will be selected based on their submitted portfolio and/or proposed project. Selected applicants will be granted the space for 1 year, with the possibility of renewing the contract (up to a maximum of 3 years).

Timeline

Application deadline: September 22, 2025 (inclusive)

Announcement of results: First half of October 2025

Studios available from: Beginning of 2026
