Annotation

The exhibition traces the rich history of the interdisciplinary event SEM—the International Symposium on SCULPTURE / JEWELRY / ARCHITECTURE, which has been held annually since 2009 as a tribute to Erna Masarovičová (1926–2008)—a key figure in modern Slovak sculpture, jewelry, and medal making. It presents works by dozens of international artists spanning a wide range of generations who have participated in the symposium over the nearly two decades of its existence. The core of the exhibition, with a special focus on the jewelry section, reflects hybridity, material diversity, and a variety of artistic approaches. Visitors will see a wide range of works, from intimate jewelry pieces to objects and multimedia works, all the way to installations that engage with public space. The exhibition is thus not only a showcase of original individual statements and reflections, but also a celebration of community connections and the spiritual legacy of a founding figure in Slovak art.

SEM.ŠPERK unveils the results of an intensive creative dialogue among invited artists, who have the unique opportunity to draw inspiration from the material heritage and genius loci of the studio’s authentic environment, which thus once again becomes a venue for lively creative exchange.
