Annotation

VLNOOBJEKT is a visual arts workshop focused on contemporary sculpture, object art, painting, and intermedia overlaps, combined with the presentation of newly created works in the form of short-term exhibitions and permanent installations in public space. The concept of the event formally builds on the University Symposium at Mlyny (2014–2018) organized by artist Andrej Šoka, which took place on the university campus in Mlynská dolina in Bratislava, where sculptures and objects remain installed to this day. In 2022, the event was renamed, relocated from Bratislava to the Kysihýbel Arboretum, and merged with the site-specific theater festival VLNOPLOCHA, held during the summer in Banská Štiavnica.

The 4th edition of the VLNOOBJEKT workshop includes the work and participation of six sculptors, three male painters, two female painters, and one multimedia artist. It is once again framed by the phrase – HERE AND NOW – referring to reflection and being in the present. This year’s edition follows last year’s theme, which remains relevant. HERE AND NOW speaks of the demanding existence in an age overwhelmed with stimuli, falsehoods, “opinions,” distorted facts, shadows of the past, frustration with the present, and fears of the future, but also the need to act immediately, locally, mindfully, loyally, and empathetically. HERE AND NOW can also be about connection, sensitivity, cooperation, community, resistance, and solidarity. It is up to us what we choose.
