The Studio_vvv warmly invites you to take part in an event – an author’s presentation of creative work.
Dom Vanek, Hlavná 25, Bratislava
(trolleybus no. 44 – direction Koliba, stop Čremchová, approx. 80 metres from the house)
As part of the three-year educational and research project “When You Find It, We’ll Let You Know. Sustainable Models of Intermedia Artistic Practices” (2024–2026), Studio_vvv presents a lecture by Slovak artist and ceramist Simona Janišová.
Event partners: Dom Vanek and Banská St a nica Contemporary
Simona Janišová is a Slovak visual artist. In 2018, she earned her doctoral degree at the Ceramics Studio of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (AFAD). She studied ceramics and related disciplines at AFAD, in Barnaby Barford’s studio in London, at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, and at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki.
In her practice, she primarily uses clay as a medium — continuously exploring ceramic materials and their possibilities, as well as her own as an author working with them. Her ceramic work evolves across design, fine art, and partially theoretical contexts. She employs both traditional ceramic techniques and new digital processes. In her artistic work, she focuses on the human figure, projecting into it her own inner experiences. Over the long term, she explores the theme of fire — essential to the creation of ceramics — as a metaphor for burning, combustion, and burnout.
In her lecture, the artist will address the topic of contemporary free ceramic sculpture in Czechoslovak and Asiancontexts, their parallels and contrasts. She will also briefly introduce the themes present in the work of Imrich Vanek.
With thanks to the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava for making this project possible, and to Banská St a nica for providing space and support.
