Annotation:
Discovered after years, one of the childhood drawings – a mother and child with the inscription "Aj lavju mama" – became the trigger for its transformation into a new artistic form. The artist, now much older, gives these drawings a new identity from the perspective of an adult Paťka, who now understands that for the mother, to whom they were so innocently dedicated, they meant nothing. Cheerful drawings turn into a reflection on the complexity of the mother-daughter relationship, once idealized but now confronted with the experience of adulthood. This relationship has become a dominant theme in the artist's work in recent years. Specifically, in the context of a narcissistic and aggressive mother, she examines the profound impact this relationship has on a child's development. She compares her perception of this relationship from the perspective of herself as a child versus herself as a wounded adult. The goal is to shed more light on this complex and often taboo aspect of family relationships, which the artist processes in her work with a certain tragicomic detachment. The resulting works represent a personal time record of the situation, as childhood drawings have been given a new face.
Patrícia Babulíková
Patrícia Babulíková is a young artist and student at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, at the Department of Graphics and Other Media in the Studio of Free Graphics. In her work, she uses various graphic techniques but primarily works with the airbrush technique, as it deprives her of complete control and adds a sense of randomness and expressivity to her work, which are crucial elements of her artistic practice. She also enjoys monotypes and experimenting with the fusion of different graphic media. In this exhibition, as well as in her overall work, the artist focuses on recording emotional shifts in personal relationships and changes in her perception.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Department of Printmaking and Other Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, the Rotary Club Bratislava, and Gallery Nedbalka.
