Paris est une fête

Paris, a magical concept that evokes thousands of associations, memories and romantic desires. The city where artistic trends were born that still influence creative work in painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry and fashion.

Paris of the twenties of the last century, which Ernest Hemingway writes about in his book - A Moving Feast, in French "Paris est une fête". In this collection of short stories, the author recounts his encounters with artists and personalities such as Gertrude Stein, herself a writer and collector of classical modern art. Important avant-garde artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marie Laurencinová, Guillaume Apollinaire, Alice B. Toklasová, Henri Matisse, Georges Braque, Juan Gris and others met in her salon.

Personalities and concepts that, even after a hundred years, are consciously or subconsciously present in the work of the now established generation of Slovak and Czech artists born in the early 1980s. In a certain period, their work was influenced by, among others, Paris.

  • Martina Rötlingová - painting and printmaking (SVK)
  • Kristýna Španihelová - artistic jewel and object (CZ)
  • Marcel Holubec W. - fashion design (SVK)
  • Jakub Gulyás - photography and film (SVK)

This is a selection of authors whose work significantly reflects the current globalized world, influencing social problems, desires and dreams of today's young generation. In their works, they sensitively develop distinctive mythologies with a dose of critical view of the consumer society.

"It is a group of creators who always work in the context of history and the present and live freely and at the same time responsibly enrich the cultural scene not only in their home environment, but also in other countries, in our common European Union." Karol Weisslechner, exhibition curator.
