Annotation

Experimental design combines the freedom of artistic expression with the often almost engineering efforts of creators to find solutions (but also warnings) for overlooked aspects of life. On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Experimental Design Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, its students and alumni present a selection of projects that represent a diverse and intensely personal approach to design making. From finding alternatives to existing ill-fitting solutions, to creating new solutions for ignored problems, to projects deepening community relations. The exhibition also mirrors the principles of the pedagogical process, which is centered on an individual approach, autonomy, respect for freedom of opinion, engagement and critical exploration of reality, as well as the ability to develop collaboration within and beyond the community.

In this environment of respect and concern for personal motivations, parallel worlds are developed into coherent artistic programmes, enriched by the experience of bringing them closer to each other both during studies and after graduation. The students and alumni are joined by a curator, a peer, studying at the Department of Theory and History of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, to make the studio's first five years of existence accessible through their own optics, individual approach and generational testimony, together with the current students of the studio.
