EXHIBITION THEME:

  • How do I pass the time while waiting for the future?

Introduction:

An open call focused on visual artworks and projects exploring the relationship between visual art and digital everyday life in the complicated times we live in. What do visual artists do in a hyper-visual era full of crises? Many of us search for new themes in virtual worlds while staying in traditional media. Some have consciously moved their entire practice into digital spaces. Others approach technologies and their visualities with a neo-romantic defiance, trusting yellowed paper and pencil. In the end, even the last romantic ends up sketching something they saw on Instagram a few days ago. We create within these tensions and contradictions, all with a high degree of individuality. This exhibition should therefore connect these perspectives and approaches more collectively.

Is analog only a sentimental trend or can it be a protest? Or is the only way to embrace digitality and immerse ourselves in it as a new medium? And how do we relate to a world that has these contradictions in its essence?

We revolve together in a strange digitizing present, consuming retro trends without a clear vision for the future, without a meaningful place in a world full of rapid images. A world where after a permacrisis comes brat summer and we deal with climate anxiety through brainrot.

The abandoned building as the exhibition venue serves as a metaphorical backdrop for this reflection. A place full of past, with no clear purpose for the future. A ruin of what was, yet to find a new role in a changing world. Dangerous and decaying. What "safety measures" do we all take in our everyday lives, in a collapsing world, to be able to look forward?

The exhibition *Pohroma* (Calamity) should reflect how across generations we respond to our present through our everyday artistic practice and reflections. Where we try, where we fight, where we hide, and where we run. The personal visual in an abandoned building as a marker of sharp corners, dangerous edges, and cracks in our lives soaked with digitalization. Like reflective tape on steep stairs, like entering at your own risk into dark spaces of the “other,” the abandoned building becomes a collective body, where energy flows through improvised, vein-like electric wiring.

OPEN CALL – VISUAL:

  • The call is open to everyone working in the field of visual arts.
  • You can submit an existing work or a new site-specific proposal.

✅ All media are welcome.

  • The only limitation is the technical state of the building – temporary electricity and the width of most doors (80/90 cm). For works requiring electricity, only simple, low-power devices in limited quantity are acceptable. For large-scale sculptures and objects, consider the stated door width.

OPEN CALL – MUSIC:

We are looking for music projects for the exhibition opening and closing that reflect the chaos of everyday life, softly illuminating the dark corridors of the abandoned building. Experiencing time, living in “scrolling.” Anxious (un)preparedness. Sound as a safety measure. As rhythm in ruins. As a temporary refuge in a space that is collapsing and pulsating.

  • Live concerts
  • DJs
  • Experimental sets
  • SoundCloud rap
  • Also soft singer-songwriter moments
  • Anything that could resonate through the cracks of our shared realities.

Send a press kit or project info (bio, samples, links, rider, photo) to:

  • Email subject: POHROMA – OPEN CALL – MUSIC – Project Name
