Annotation
Spas, mineral springs, sanatoriums, fountains, bathhouses, abandoned recreation areas, and ruins of humanist utopias. All these themes revolve around the symbol-laden motif of water, which is the focus of the artistic project group Abandoned (re)creation. The group was founded by AFAD graduates, photographer Andrea Kalinová and architect Martin Zaiček. Water brings and takes away, sedimenting, creating, and shaping—but it is primarily humans and society that reflect the best of themselves in water. The abandoned and forgotten monuments of this reflection are the subject of artistic research by the group Abandoned (re)creation.
Martin Zaiček *1987
Martin Zaiček, a graduate of AFAD KAT (2012), is currently working at the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava as a coordinator for architectural design competitions. Previously, he served as an expert for the Slovak Chamber of Architects in the field of competitions and policy development in architecture. However, one of his main activities is his involvement in the non-profit organization Jaromír Krejcar Society, which has been striving for years to save the National Cultural Monument Machnáč in Trenčianske Teplice. He is the author of the book series "C20"—guides to 20th-century architecture—and co-author of the book "Architecture of Care," dedicated to the rich history of post-war spa architecture in Slovakia. Since 2012, he has been part of the artistic group Abandoned (re)creation, which connects independent artistic research with artistic activism and publishing activities.
