About the event

The Less Is Sound project with the theme of a more-than-human perspective focuses on active listening (or so-called deep listening) with the aim of finding a new interspecies sensibility.

In the context of contemporary crises facilitated by patriarchal-colonial hyper-capitalism, active listening is an ecological and political practice. It requires transcending anthropocentrism (civilizational self-centeredness) and reveals new forms of attention based on slowing down and empathy.

In the spirit of the words of composer and soundscape ecologist Bernie Krause, the Less is Sound project highlights the act of deep listening and, in the context of the dominance of visual culture, elevates it to a practice of extended perception of reality.

  • The location with a forest character is home to up to fifty species of birds.
  • The aim of the project is to mediate impulses for critical thinking about the sound of nature (not excluding us) in the center and on the outskirts of cities.

Program

  • Jonáš Gruska - sonification of ultrasound from a kinetic custom-made sound system. Bat-inspired experimentation with the audible and inaudible.
  • Richard Hronský a Krištof Krupa - a meditative combination of fujara and double bass
  • Aldana Duoraan a Tomáš Niesner - Yakut chomus and acoustic guitar
  • Daniel Kordík - contrasts of field recordings and electronic hardware
  • Line Gate - vocal ambient soundtrack to sunrise
  • András Cséfalvay - performative lecture on More than human perspectives
  • Monika Bočková - a lecture on the history and future of the location
  • Community picnic
    • Coffee and small snacks will be available on site (cash only)
    • We chose a beautiful place that begs for a community picnic. Bring your favorite snack and share with others
