Annotation

The exhibition “All the stories I have ever told you were fiction” by Kuba Stępień presents a selection of the artist’s* latest works, intertwining the eponymous video performance and mixed media pieces into a layered collage of non-verbal communication, collective intimacy, and queer dreaming.

  • The exhibition is accompanied by Romuald Demidenko’s lecture *Stories of the Other*, part of the *New Interfaces 04* series, taking place on Thursday, April 17 at 18:00.

Kuba Stępień (b. 1997)

is an artist* working between Berlin, Warsaw, and their hometown Bełchatów. Their practice is rooted in a broadly defined process with a strong focus on experimental research, emotional critique, autotheory, and non-binary trans perspectives. They work with video, performance, latex, bodily fluids, and various other media, tools, and materials that may be perceived as irrational or nonsensical. They often engage with performative concepts, exploring their own body and the collective body, creating body-like forms and artworks that move within a multiplicity transcending personal trauma and queer world-building. Kuba Stępień works across media, combining them to explore notions of ambiguity that absorb fictions and fantasies in relation to visual representation and offer an alternative to dreams. Challenging normative forms of communication and binary structures, they explore the potentials of non-normativity, using a subjectively distinctive language that poetizes their works and treats them as visual poems, codes, or representations.
